Analysis of the Potential for Halal Tourism Development Based on Islamic Ecotheology in the Perspective of Hifz Al Nafs for SustainableTourism Development in Camplong Beach

The development of halal tourism in Indonesia is currently a major focus in the national tourism industry, in line with the country's enormous potential as the world's largest Muslim-populated nation. However, this development often focuses only on formal aspects such as food and places of worship, without integrating environmental ethics and deeper Islamic values. On Madura Island, particularly at Camplong Beach, there is enormous potential for the development of sustainable halal tourism. Despite its natural beauty and strategic location, this potential has not been optimized to the fullest extent with reference to local values and Islamic principles. This study aims to analyze the potential for developing Islamic eco-theology-based halal tourism in the perspective of hifz al nafs at Camplong Beach using a descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study show that Camplong Beach has strong physical capital (attractions, accessibility) and has fulfilled the formal elements of halal tourism (worship facilities, sharia-oriented accommodation). However, the implementation of Islamic eco-theology and the principle of Hifz al-Nafs is still weak. The main gap was found in the issue of cleanliness and sanitation, especially the accumulation of waste caused by managerial and moral failures of the managers, which directly caused discomfort to visitors. This cleanliness issue is considered to violate the fundamental principles of Hifz Al Nafs and the rules of Islamic Ecotheology, which emphasize the importance of maintaining Amanah (responsibility) and Mizan (balance) in nature.
