Abstract

This article will discuss the development of Islamic religious education and its relationship to the education system in Indonesia during the colonial period until several years after independence. Efforts to incorporate Islamic religious education into the modern education system require various changes and adjustments in the education system. Various reforms that have emerged, such as in Muhammadiyah, NU, etc. are efforts by Muslims to advance Islamic religious education for the Indonesian Muslim community. This study is qualitative literature research. Main data source for Islamic Boarding Schools, Madrasas, Schools: Islamic Education in the modern period. Other data sources are obtained from library literature, such as: books, journals, and others. The results of the discussion show that madrasas are a synthesis of religious education systems and general education. The Indonesian education system has adopted religious education which was initially only carried out in Islamic boarding schools as traditional educational institutions. Islamic boarding schools as traditional educational institutions that only teach religious knowledge have also opened themselves up to implementing general education for students..
