This study aims to ijtihad in Islamic education: Renewal by Muhammad Abduh and Ayumardi Azra. The research method used is desksearch with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected from various pure literary sources such as manuscripts, books, and journals. Islamic education is a comprehensive process that utilizes various tools and methods to teach Islamic values, laws, and teachings effectively. Adjustment of the tools and methods used to the needs and context of learning is very important to achieve the desired goals of Islamic education. Muhammad Abduh and Azyumardi Azra both emphasize the importance of renewal of Islamic thought to face the challenges of modern times. Both emphasize education and a deep understanding of Islamic teachings in accordance with the context of the times and the needs of local communities. They support ijtihad (new interpretation) and the relevance of Islam in the contemporary context, and encourage a return to the essence of Islamic teachings that are inclusive and progressive. Both advocate for the renewal of Islamic education by integrating universal values and local contexts, and combining Islamic tradition with modern thought.
